Dent @ Home with André Natta: Solidarity Journalism and Changing Times
July 10 @ 12:00 pm - 1:00 pm PDT
In this fireside chat Dent @ Home session, journalist and nonprofit writer Farrha Khan will talk with André Natta of Broke in Philly about the evolving work of journalism, and how these principles can be applied to work outside the news industry. In these dynamic times, there may be more to journalism’s evolution than we realize. That realization might illuminate our own work and understanding as we navigate the road ahead.
An old truism states that “the news is always correct unless it’s about you.” For years, journalists have worked hard to represent factual and truthful stories, but fall short in sharing the truth that comes from understanding and representing the perspective, pains, needs, and ideas of the community they are covering.
André has been a journalist at the forefront of the industry and a leading thinker on community engagement for years. Recently, he has been co-leading workshops on applying the ideas of solidarity journalism with how journalism has evolved over the last 50 years, and in this fireside chat he will explore these same themes and relate them to many of our own fields of work.
