The Panel: Creators in Space: Expressing our Humanity in an Alien Environment

Room 6DE • Thursday July 20, 2023 5:45pm - 6:45pm PDT • See the panel’s official SDCC posting here.

When imagining life off-planet, how do we express our humanity and creativity in an alien environment? Can the art we make both reflect the unique qualities of space and keep us connected to home?

Panelists Aurelia Institute co-founder Sana Sharma, space artist Richelle Ellis, Tere Riley (director, marketing and communications, Redwire Space), and Patrick O’Neill of the International Space Station’s National Lab join moderator Susan Karlin (Fast Company) to investigate how art and 3D-printed sculpture are created in zero gravity hundreds of miles overhead, ways the new space economy uses it to educate and inspire, and how Earth-bound artists can get their creations into orbit and beyond.

“I know from experience that the Dent the Future team throws a great event at Comic-Con.”

Welcome to Dent

Founded in 2012, Dent is a community of entrepreneurs, technologists, executives, scientists, investors, and creatives who are driven to “put a dent in the universe.” Initially launched as an annual conference, we quickly developed into a strong community of people who call themselves “Denters.”  The name Dent comes from the Steve Jobs quote: “we’re here to put a dent in the universe, why else even be here?”
