The Panel: Indigenous Futurisms:
Transcending Past/Present/Future

Grand 12 & 13, Marriott Marquis San Diego Marina • Thursday July 20, 2023 12:00pm - 1:00pm PDT • See the panel’s official SDCC posting here.

Discover the remarkable range of artistic and technological speculation found in comics, film, literature, and art that speaks to future worlds from Indigenous perspectives. Inspired by the forthcoming exhibition “Indigenous Futurisms” at LA’s Autry Museum of the American West—part of Getty’s PST ART: Art & Science Collide, a Southern California-wide exploration of art and science—hear directly from visionary artists who remix everything from virtuosic Indigenous art forms to the iconography of Star Wars to high fashion as they reveal new worlds.

Panelists include comic book artist Weshoyot Alvitre (Tongva); painters Jason Garcia (Santa Clara) and Ryan Singer (Dine); ceramicist and designer Virgil Ortiz (Cochiti), with moderator and curator Suzanne Fricke.

“I know from experience that the Dent the Future team throws a great event at Comic-Con.”

Welcome to Dent

Founded in 2012, Dent is a community of entrepreneurs, technologists, executives, scientists, investors, and creatives who are driven to “put a dent in the universe.” Initially launched as an annual conference, we quickly developed into a strong community of people who call themselves “Denters.”  The name Dent comes from the Steve Jobs quote: “we’re here to put a dent in the universe, why else even be here?”
