A Weekend of Wonder in Hollywood: Magic Castle, Black Rabbit Rose, and More
Every year, we look for ways to give the Dent community access to experiences that simply can’t be purchased off the shelf. A few years ago, it was a backstage meet with Teller before a Penn & Teller show. Last February, it was a VIP tour of Meow Wolf’s Omega Mart with the people who built it. This May, we’re heading to Hollywood for a weekend built entirely around astonishment.
Dent Passport Weekend of Wonder in Hollywood runs Saturday and Sunday, May 2-3, 2026.
This is a 21+ event, limited to 30 guests.
Saturday, May 2
We kick off Saturday morning in Laurel Canyon, one of the most mythologized neighborhoods in American music history. Our guide is Kristen Stavola, founder of We Are Laurel Canyon, who has lived and worked in the canyon for years. She’ll walk us through the Laurel Canyon Country Store, the rustic hilltop market Jim Morrison immortalized in “Love Street” as “the store where the creatures meet.” In the 1960s and 70s, this half-mile of winding roads was home to Joni Mitchell, Frank Zappa, The Doors, and Crosby Stills Nash & Young simultaneously. Kristen knows the history, the lore, and the current life of this place in a way you simply can’t get from a guidebook.
That afternoon, we gather at the Hollywood home of Denters Reed Levine and Joe Miale for a private catered dinner — the kind of evening the Dent community does better than almost anyone.
Late night, we head to Black Rabbit Rose, a hidden-gem magic cabaret tucked into the heart of Hollywood at 1719 N. Hudson Ave. We have tickets to the 9:30pm show.
Sunday, May 3
Sunday afternoon, we get early access to Parallax, Wes Palmer’s groundbreaking immersive experience on Hollywood Boulevard — a physical space that responds to you in real time, like stepping inside a living story.
The evening is the main event. Dinner and a full evening at the Magic Castle, the invitation-only clubhouse of the Academy of Magical Arts at 7001 Franklin Avenue. CNN put it plainly: the hardest trick is getting in. We have a private group reservation. Expect cocktails, close-up magic, stage shows, and a dinner you won’t stop talking about on the drive home.
