Renowned Artist Bill Sienkiewicz to Send Space-Themed Artwork to the International Space Station
Bill Sienkiewicz, the Eisner Hall of Fame and Emmy-nominated artist celebrated for his groundbreaking contributions to comic book and graphic novel illustration, is set to send an original space-themed Batman artwork to the International Space Station (ISS). This unique project, in collaboration with Dent the Future, will be formally unveiled at the upcoming San Diego Comic-Con 2024.
Unveiling at San Diego Comic-Con 2024
The official unveiling of Bill Sienkiewicz’s space-themed Batman artwork will take place during the "Marriage of Space and Art" panel, organized by Susan Karlin and Dent the Future, on Thursday, July 25th, from 4:00 PM to 5:00 PM in Room 28DE. This panel will explore the intersection of creativity and space exploration, featuring distinguished speakers such as retired NASA astronaut, musician, and author Cady Coleman, glass artist and author Josh Simpson, space life scientist and SciArt Exchange founder Jancy McPhee, and NASA astronaut-turned-CEO of Starlab Space LLC, Tim Kopra.
A Unique Journey to Space
Sienkiewicz's artwork, an 11x17 inch watercolor creation, will be part of the payload aboard the SpaceX CRS-32 mission scheduled for February 2025. The piece will return to Earth in March 2025, having endured the rigors of space travel. This project exemplifies the innovative spirit of combining art with space exploration, making it a historic moment in the arena of superhero art.

Bill Sienkiewicz (pronounced sin-KEV-ich) is a multi-Eisner Award-winning and Emmy Award-nominated artist known for revamping the style of comic and graphic novel illustration—a feat earning him an international reputation across media industries, as well as entrée into the Eisner Hall of Fame. He is most noted for Marvel's Elektra: Assassin, Moon Knight, and New Mutants—inspiring FX’s Legion and Disney’s New Mutants—and his acclaimed graphic novel Stray Toasters.
